How I Prepare your Child for the Eleven Plus Test
If you wish for your child to sit the Medway 11+ test or the Kent test, I offer eleven plus tuition for year 5. For children to be ready and confident to sit the 11+ they need a strong command of literacy and numeracy. My 11+ preparation aims to identify possible gaps in your child’s learning as well as offering some early grounding in areas not usually covered in schools, such as verbal and non-verbal reasoning. The test provider for both the Medway and Kent tests is GL Assessment and I use practice materials which reflect the papers the children will eventually sit. Occasionally, the exam board papers are changed to CEM, but rest assured, I keep an eye on these changes and adapt accordingly.
Although the eleven plus tuition aims to help children be prepared for their examinations, many things can affect their performance on the day and it is important to be prepared for a non-pass.
Non-grammar secondary schools in Kent and Medway hold open days throughout the year and some schools hold their own in-house tests. In Medway, these tests are called Fair Banding Tests, which aim to assess which stream to place your child in. This can effectively mean that your child may still get into a grammar stream, within a non-grammar school. Ensure you have checked the dates for open days of your local comprehensive schools and registered accordingly.
