Much like English, mathematics is one of the fundamental subjects in every child’s education which can open doors to many other disciplines such as science, information technology, music, geography, and design technology.

Maths tuition follows the national curriculum appropriate for each year group.  The sessions aim to reinforce what the children are learning in school and embed skills and understanding. The maths sessions will aim to ensure children have a strong understanding of numbers in order to apply to problem solving, complementing the maths mastery approach adopted by many primary schools.  Topics explored in maths sessions will be appropriate to your child’s school year; not all topics will be taught in one block of six sessions, but across the year will include: place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, shape and statistics.  The children will also bring home a maths homework activity each week.

The maths section of the 11+ covers the same topics that your child would have studied throughout Key Stage 2, so they should already be familiar with the following areas:

  • Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division
  • Money
  • Time
  • The Metric System
  • Fractions, Decimals and Ratios
  • Problem Solving
  • Simple Graphs
  • Prime Numbers
